I am a life-long resident of Dakota County, born and raised in South Saint Paul and still residing in the South Metro.  I live in Apple Valley with my wife, Carol, where we have raised two children who both attended District 196 Schools through graduation. 

 

I was a career law enforcement officer with the Apple Valley Police Department where I served many roles including Patrol Officer, Investigator, Sergeant, Captain and ultimately Chief of Police. I served proudly from 1987 until retiring in 2022.

 

As I advanced in rank to an administrative level, I represented the Police Department at most Council meetings, giving me a clear understanding of how the Council works.  My involvement in the following activities make me an excellent choice for City Council:

• Member of the Dakota County Chiefs Organization

• Member of the Joint Operations Committee for the Dakota Communications Center

• Representative for the Dakota County Special Operations Team

• Helping to develop the Dakota County Computer Crimes Unit

• Member of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force

• Complete understanding of City budgeting.

 

My educational and civic background includes:

• Associate’s degree in law enforcement from Inver Hills Community College

• Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University

• Master’s degree from the University of St. Thomas

• Graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 227

• Extensive training and experience in Civil Defense and Law Enforcement Operations

• Member and Past President of the Apple Valley Rotary Club.

 

In my personal life I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling and attending various local events. I also enjoy fishing, bow hunting, and hiking.

 

My goals for the City of Apple Valley are easy to define and are straight forward: maintain sound fiscal integrity while providing 1) Effective Public Safety, 2) Reliable Public Works, and 3) Quality Parks.  These should be the main priorities of our local government, and our City Council has done an excellent job delivering on these issues over the years.
